  • Fairfax County Human Services Resources Guide (HSRG) 24/7 access to information about non-profit and government services available to Fairfax County residents. Learn More
  • Fairfax County Office of Coordinated Services Planning (CSP)703-222-0880 (8:00 am to 4:30 pm weekdays. CSP specialists are ready to listen and assist you by providing access and referrals to both county and community-based resources. CSP specialists can help you find information and solutions for your needs, such as emergency food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, employment, financial assistance, and other essentials.

  • Domestic Violence / Making Home a Safer Place The following are resources Fairfax County residents can use if they are experiencing violence in the home, instances of which may increase during this time of stress:
      • If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.
      • Call Fairfax County’s Domestic & Sexual Violence hotline: 703-360-7273TTY 711, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
      • If it is not safe to talk, text LOVEIS to 22522 to connect with the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
      • Chat with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network).
  • Mental Health Resources:

Call  9-1-1 if a situation is life-threatening and ask for a crisis intervention trained officer.

The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, in partnership with PRS CrisisLink, offers a suicide prevention text line in Fairfax. Anyone can text “CONNECT” to 855-11, and a PRS CrisisLink volunteer will respond within minutes. You can also call 703-527-4077 any time, 24/7 or visit fairfaxcounty.gov/community-services-board/prevent-suicide

Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
A new 9-8-8 crisis and support hotline is now active across the United States, including here in Fairfax County.

People can call or text 988 or call the existing NSPL number, 1-800-273-8255 to be connected to behavioral health care and support 24 hours a day, for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.   For more information visit 988lifeline.org or the Fairfax County website.

Other suicide prevention and resources and support for those who have experienced sudden loss:

  • If you or someone you love is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please call 1-800-273-8255 or text HOME to 741741. Help is available.
  • Life Line for Veterans is a branch of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for veterans. Call: 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1; Text to 838255; or Chat online 24/7/365.
  • You Matter is for youth between the ages of 13 and 24. It is a safe space for sharing and supporting one another. It is monitored by the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
  • The Trevor Project is a national organization that provides suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ+ people ages 13-24.
  • The Alliance of Hope for Suicide Loss Survivors is a nonprofit organization that seeks to offer support and hope to survivors of suicide loss.
  • Compassionate Friends is a national organization that offers support and resources for those who’ve lost a loved one to sudden, violent death.

  • Temporary Shelter During COVID-19: In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency and the need to isolate and quarantine individuals to prevent the spread of the virus, Fairfax County has activated Emergency Support Function 6: Mass Care Health and Human Services. If you have questions about whether you meet the criteria for these temporary shelters, please call the Fairfax County Health Department Call Center at 703-267-3511.
  • The Virginia Rent and Mortgage Relief Program (RMRP) is designed to support and ensure housing stability across the commonwealth during the coronavirus pandemic. Depending on availability of funds and household need, the RMRP may provide financial assistance for rent or mortgage payments for eligible households. Click here for more information about RMRP.
  • Unemployed Health Insurance Hotline: HCA Virginia is working to assist those who find themselves without health insurance coverage for their families. The Commonwealth’s most comprehensive provider network has established a hotline to assist those who have lost health insurance coverage to secure temporary coverage while they are unemployed. The hotline (833-867-8771) is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m
  • Grocery Shopping & Pharmacy Pick-up Service For Seniors: Fairfax County Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Program has launched a free grocery shopping and pharmacy pick-up service for residents who are 60 years old and older and who require assistance. To request shopping and pharmacy pick-up, or to find out if you are eligible for financial assistance to obtain food, contact the Fairfax County Aging, Disability and Caregiver Resource line at 703-324-7948.   • Spiritual Support by Phone for Older Adults: The Fairfax County Chaplain Corps is offering spiritual support by phone for adults, Monday-Friday, 10 am-6 pm. Fears about the coronavirus (COVID-19) can take an emotional toll on people. If you would like to speak with a member of the team, call 703-324-5185 and leave your name and telephone number.   • Senior Benefits Check Up:  The National Council on Aging offers an on-line tool to explore the 2,500 programs that are available nation-wide for seniors.  Qualifying seniors may be eligible for assistance they were previously unaware of, including programs that help with health care costs, housing, utilities, transportation, and nutrition.  The site also provides information about employment and educational resources, and parks and recreation discounts.  Please visit https://www.benefitscheckup.org/ for more information.

  • Blood Donations Needed: It is important that healthy individuals continue to donate blood because there is a critical shortage. Please visit Inova Inova Blood or the American Red Cross for more information.
  • Just Serve.org:  This is a website where the volunteer needs of organizations may be posted and volunteers may search for places to serve in the community, providing opportunities to help those in need and enhance the quality of life in the community.  For more information click here

  • FACETS serves individuals and families who are homeless, low income, unstably housed, and at-risk of homelessness in Fairfax County. These individuals face significant challenges and have fewer ways to protect themselves from the pandemic. Read more
  • Food for Others: Located in the Merrifield area, Food for Others typically distributes food to more than 2,000 local families each week. They are experiencing an increased demand for food in the current crisis.  Read more

  • Justaskprevention.org:  Northern Virginia is a national ”hotspot” for the tragic crime of human trafficking. Just Ask Prevention is a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization based in the Tyson’s area that is focused on ending human trafficking in the United States and around the world through education, prevention, and intervention.  Read more
